With the majority of the british clubs finalising their pre-season schedules, fans across the country and no doubt across the globe are getting that special feeling back in their stomachs. It has only been 2 months without domestic football for us to sink our teeth into but it seems like an eternity. Fair enough we had the Euro’s to keep us entertained over the summer which proved more enjoyable with England not being there but it’s not the same as watching your club. Pre-season always turns out to be a somewhat eventful one at Newcastle United. Weather it be new signings or injuries, good results or bad results, there is always something to talk about.

The season has been a mixed one, ups and downs from beginning to the end and I am sure there is to be a lot more in future.  One of those ups however has to be said the take over of Newcastle United by owner Mike Ashley to alleviate FFS of his duties at St James Park and replacing the one time chairman with lawyer Chris Mort.  Although it looks likely he is going shortly, he has certainly in my and many others eyes been a lot more popular then Shephard ever was in his tenure at St James.

Since sky was set up in 1992 the beautiful game has been put under a stranglehold by Sky and such other media sources since. The days of a Saturday 3 O clock kick off are slowly fading into the sunset and all because the media wants another few million in their back pockets. Media inventions such as “Grand slam Sunday” & “Champions Tuesday” are designed to give fans dream days or nights of football. In contrast the fans following the sides concerned all over the country are forced to travel on inconvenient days so that these media spectaculars can take place. In turn this causes many fans problems such as finding free time, funding, travel etc all causing them to miss their teams match. Sky Sports News and other leading media within footballs aim was to bring sport to the people and yes they have done this but at a price that has cost those supporters who pay and travel the country to follow there team week-in, week-out.
