No longer do we wait for pictures to develop and a social event to produce them for our friend’s perusal. No longer do we rely on scheduled meetings to share news of the events in our lives.
Current lifestyle trends that keep us connected are blogs and social networking sites. These allow us to share our news with everyone in our social circle, and some who are not, in a convenient and almost instant manner.
Blogs range from private, complete with passwords, to ensure privacy, to open to anyone who stumbles across the site. Blogs can be simple journal like entries or full-blown picture-anecdote varieties.
This current lifestyle trend seems to be more prevalent among women, but is not limited to the fairer sex. There are blogs on mechanics, woodworking, and survival skills. Some blogs are educational, some for pure entertainment. Blogs can be set up to document the happenings in one’s life, or for a specific event. There are travel blogs, wedding blogs, blogs for and about individual children, school blogs, business blogs. Some are used as personal journals, which are then available to be perused by followers of that blog.
Blogs are growing in popularity and can be set up with relative ease. Alongside the growing trend of blogging, many businesses now offer help setting up or maintaining your blog, or templates for the appearance of your blog. Blogs can have playlists and links to the owner’s favorite blogs. In addition to being informative, blogs are a great source of entertainment.

In the past the focus has been on purchasing green products, current lifestyle trends point to living a greener lifestyle.
Some of these current lifestyle trends include conserving energy by staying home, growing some of your own food and being aware of energy consumption.
Staying home is more than just a current lifestyle trend and more than just a way to conserve in tough economic times, part of green living is in using and enjoying what you have. Staying home and finding ways to beautify your yard, or the interior of your home, is a current lifestyle trend. Growing your own food is becoming a major trend. Whether growing fresh herbs in your kitchen or having a full fledged growing greenhouse on your property, growing fresh food is no longer just for farmers. This current lifestyle trend is influenced by the desire to have pesticide and hormone free foods and is helped along by a reluctant economic recovery.
Kicks and Giggles
Posted on March 04, 2013What happens when you live a small, rural community where news really doesn?t happen? Why, you create your own of course! And that is just what one man in the small Caldwell county community of Boomer did this past week. A middle aged man who found sitting on his front porch a little boring for his taste day after day decided to get some kicks and giggles by creating a seven foot tall Bigfoot cut out from plyboard. He then placed Bigfoot approximately 100 feet off the main highway, in this case highway 18 from Lenoir to Wilkesboro, and enjoy the show.
A few interested motorists stopped to check out the joke. From the 100 foot distance, the plyboard cut out was quite convincing. The 3-D effects created by an excellent paint job, created a strikingly realistic appearance. When the local newspaper did a story on the joke, the man said he might keep Bigfoot up for a little while just to see what kind of response he would get. He even admitted that the sight from his kitchen window early in the morning still gave him a little jolt every once in awhile.
So this just goes to show that even in the backwoods and the byways, when there is no news sometimes you have to make your own. In this case a good laugh for the entire community, and a better than average day of watching the cars go by for one Boomer resident. So if you are traveling down highway 18 through Caldwell county, don?t be surprised by Bigfoot sightings, and remember he?s only plyboard.
I Will Not Be Plugged In All The Time
Posted on July 16, 2012My mom and I got into a discussion recently about my cell phone. I am twenty-six, and I have a very basic cell phone that makes calls, texts, and takes some simple pictures. That?s it. Apparently this is some kind of heinous sin. Smartphones cost the same thing she said, and you have all these apps and Internet available to you all the time. This made me think.
Why do I want that? Who wants to be plugged in all the time? Really? I think people are going to have some kind of back problems from being hunched over their phones all the time. Their kids are going to have deformed thumbs from texting. But seriously, why do we need to be plugged into our technology all the time? I don?t think that is a good thing. They are making TV shows right now about how life will be when we have no technology. It?s meant to scare the public, but there might be more truth to it than they put on.
The world will not come to and end if I don?t know the exact temperature in my location. I can read a map, and I have impeccable navigational instincts because I don?t use a GPS. The dependency on technology makes us think of it as some kind of god. Have you ever heard, ?What if something happened and I couldn?t reach you?? Well getting me on the phone isn?t going to change the situation is it? That?s just silly. So no I don?t need a smartphone, and I don?t want to spend lots of money on new technology. I?ll just use my chisel and hammer thanks.

#5: Recalls. Watching news can help people keep up to date with any product or food recalls that they need to know about. Most news channels will show products of food that has been recalled because of pieces breaking or food making people sick. This is very important for people to stay safe and well.

With an incumbent democrat, Barak Obama, as president, the republican side of the ticket has begun their quest to assume control of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. While the election is still 17 months away, the race, as well as the debate, is really starting heat up!
For what seems like ages Mitt Romney has held a steady and comfortable lead throughout the majority of the early caucus and primary states. There have been a few notable flashes in the pan in regards to Michelle Bachman and Rick Perry. However, over the past 4 weeks a surprise long shot has ascended like a Phoenix. Herman Cain, better known as the pizza man, as former CEO of Godfather’s pizza, has basically come from nowhere. Considered early on as a token black republican he has recently solidified his standing among the party faithful as well as the newly organized Tea Party, known for their stance on fiscal conservative policy.
So what would be the defining difference between a Herman Cain Presidency versus a Mitt Romney administration? Plenty! While Romney is seen as the front runner and a serious threat to the Obama White House administration, his favor among conservatives is few and far between. His stance on government insurance and gun control along with his wavering views on abortion caused quite a stir in conservative circles.
Herman Cain has risen on the back of his amazingly simple yet straightforward economic plan best known as 9-9-9. That is a 9% business flat tax, a 9% personal income flat tax and a 9% national sales tax. The impact of these reforms, in the minds of the conservative faithful, would inject a serious amount of optimism in an otherwise dead economy.
Over the next few weeks the candidates will continue to exchange verbal pot shots, but you the voter have the final say. Who will you support? What are you looking for in a candidate? The answers will come sooner than you think.

The Hottest Music of Today
Posted on June 30, 2010Glee: The Music Journey to Nationals is a short music album but quickly beat out Christina Aguilera’s new album Bionic. Glee claimed the #1 download spot topping well-known artists and longer albums, and it is easy to see why.
This year people all over have fallen in love with Glee. The quirky characters, twisting story lines, and dealing with tough subjects with a mixture of humor and grace has brought many viewers each week. But the number one draw for many, even above the show’s stellar cast, is the music. Each week a musical them is provided to the members of a high school glee club and often their song choices reflect what is going on in their lives. These musical choices and resurrections of old favorites have drawn fans from across demographic lines.
This final album from the season represents the culmination of the glee club’s efforts as they compete in nationals, and it shows. The vocals are strong as always and even if you are not a fan of the TV show, there is a lot to love about this album.
There are six songs on the album and Faithfully, while a well known standard, is covered well and changed enough to make it fresh and new while retaining the core melody and beloved song. Lea Michele always shines with her Broadway trained vocals and she does not disappoint in Faithfully.
Any Way You Want It/ Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’ was a playful song that was done well and while it is not the strongest song on the album, it was full of energy and has spot on vocals.
